Class Notes- November 2018

Congratulations to Sarah Jessee '01 and husband Zeb Zankel on the birth of their son Arlo Archer Zankel on October 24.

Emily Courter Armentrout '11 and Russell Andrew Sanders were married September 22 at The German Club Manor at Virginia Tech! North Cross Alumni Hallie Martin '11, Kaki Comer '11, and Catherine Jessee '11 were in the wedding party. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Shelly Maycock '79 and Dr. Roger Stritmatter who were married on June 23 at Hahn Farm in Blacksburg! Roger Stritmatter is Professor of Humanities at Coppin State in Baltimore, MD. The bride's father, Jerry "Doc" Maycock, taught Chemistry and Physics at North Cross from 1972 to 2003. Her mother was also a librarian at North Cross. Shelly and Roger will reside in Christiansburg and Baltimore.

Congratulations to Bill Kaufman '02 and Megan Kinney on their recent engagement! They plan on getting married in Marco Island, Florida in April 2019.

On October 2, in the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., North Cross School graduate Jason Robinson '89, was formally installed as the Headmaster of St. Albans School and the canon of the National Cathedral. Five former North Cross faculty were in attendance: John Noffsinger, long-time English teacher and English department chair; Gates DeHart, long-time English and Drama teacher; Gordon Winn, former Spanish teacher and Jason's classmate in the Class of 1989; Maryann Robinson, former French teacher and Jason's proud mom; and Peter Wonson, former assistant headmaster and upper school director. Also in attendance was Travis Shackelford Holland '85, whose two sons attend St. Albans. Mr. DeHart had the honor of participating in the installation ceremony as one of the lay readers.

The Bay Area’s newest Raider residents Nicole Chaney ‘14 and Catherine Jessee ‘11 got together at The Wing San Francisco for an inspiring panel of women in politics, encouraging women to run for office. Nicole is teaching with Teach for America and Catherine is working in editorial communications at Heath Ceramics. 

Brett Jones '16, playing for the Ferrum Panthers, and Miles Lowman '17, playing for the Hampden-Sydney Tigers, battled it out on the field on October 27! Ferrum won that game 32-19.

Congratulations are in order for Seely Stephenson Nicholson '08 and her husband Bo on their marriage September 29th in Roaring Gap, NC! Fellow NCS Alumni Ashley Turner '08, Erika Martin '08, and Hannah Greenberg '08 were bridesmaids.

Congratulations to Avery Sturm '15, who was named Conference MVP as she led her team (Miami University Redhawks) back to the NCAA tournament! 

Congratulations to Hannah Greenberg '08 for finishing the New York City Marathon on November 4. She ran for the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and raised over $5,600 that will go towards supporting cancer research!

Congratulations to Katey Houck McBurney '05 and her husband Ryan on the birth of their son, Charlie, born on September 16!

Congratulations to Fara Lukens '07 and fiancé, Derek Long, gave birth to their son Broxton Davis Long on August 28!

​In Memoriam

We are sad to share that Parent of Alumni Robert Eastwood Glenn passed away on the afternoon of Thursday, October 18, 2018, in the presence of his children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clydenne Reinhard Glenn, and is survived by his two children, Pauline Glenn O'Brien '76 and Robert Eastwood Glenn Jr. '82, and four grandchildren.

Sarah Elizabeth Hickam Lowen (NGA) passed away on Friday September 28. She is survived by her four children, Tory Bullington, Julia, Sarah and Mason Lowen; and her parents, Dr. Lindsay and Sarah Hickam; her brother, Hunter Hickam and his wife, Lisa; and sister, Katey Peterson.
